Sadly I agree with everything you said. I've gotten to act 3 twice and both times I got demotivated and started over. Act 3 is a sandbox gonne horrible wrong.

Not even going to mention the huge army of absolutists that leave from moonrise at the end of act 2 and never are seen in the game ever again?

I'm honestly shocked you didn't bring up the most obviously broken by cut content quest in Act 3, the explosives quest. You can literally only complete that quest by blowing up a building in the middle of the city. You can't find evidence to turn over, you can't do anything other than fight in a building that will inevitably get blown to smithereens during the fight. And then afterwards you can't even loot anything in the building without the police showing up and bitching at you for stealing.

Odd, Act 3 is my favorite act. The performance doesn't always hold up andit's definitely unfinished but I love it specifically because there is so much to do.

Orin in act 3 works better when playing Durge certainly character motivations are more interesting.

I had pretty similar problems with act 3. The most problematic in feeling unfinished was the toy quest for me, since for a game that normally has like four different ways to end quests and a lot of them are dialogue based this one just confused be for like half an hour. I had to look up multiple guides and Reddit posts online to make sure I wasn’t missing anything and there really just was nothing one could do. Also the feeling of being a lot got worse for me because so many quests send you from location to location to location. It made the side quests feel bloated to me espacially compared to Astarions and Shadowhearts arc conclusions. I don’t think those two quests needed to be longer since they were great on their own but it kinda lessened their impact being the short breaks between the endless artist quest and saving the future cult victims. In my first run I played like the perfect hero paladin who tried to save everyone and make everyone happy so I did all the quests and I’m happy I did for that run, but I’m just looking forward to cutting a lot of those quests short.

I feel like I’m in the minority, but I loved the chaotic mess of Act 3. Act 1 and 2 had pretty clear linear paths (granted you could easily get sidetracked) but Act 3 just opened up this whole world, busy with interesting people to talk to and tons of hidden nooks to explore. I loved getting lost in all of it, and I had only one bug that made me reload a save. Although, I did play the dark urge on my first playthrough and the connections to the main story line (particularly to Gortash and Orin) might have kept my character a little more grounded in the story context. My main complaint about the game is that no matter which character you select (Tav, Durge, Origin) you have to start the same way every single time. I wish there was some variety in how the tutorial/starting scenes played out that was based on the character or your background or something.

They never got Wyll right IMO, and its' a crying shame. There was the basis for a really interesting character there, but they never managed to develop it coherently. My guess is that too many people got involved in the creative process. Too many cooks spoiling the proverbial broth. Probably someone higher up the chain dictating that Wyll had to be a "good" character because the game needed some "good" characters. And so the original creative inspiration was blocked. And eventually lost. The game introduces Wyll as this dashing, charismatic folk hero with a dark secret - but that isn't how Wyll presents. We discover that he has all sorts of baggage from the past - but none of that baggage leads to any complexity or layering in his character. He's a warlock, but he doesn't experience the pull of the dark side - despite the fact that everything is set up perfectly for it.We have the resentment against his father, the lure of power... we could even have had some sexual tension with Mizora... but no. None of this is explored. Wyll is just good and noble. I can't see the coherence of the thought process here. What is the point of establishing all the elements for a really interesting character arc only to form them into... precisely nothing? The predictable result on the part of the player is disappointment.

It sucks that we weren’t able to cure Karlach. It felt empty not having the ability to save her without sending her back to avernus. Will deserves more content. It feels like they picked favorite companions. It’s icky. The developers should have done everything to make every companion stand out. I agree Gortash and Orin just didn’t feel compelling. I fought them to check a box.. I didn’t want to kill Orin. It felt out of place for my tav other than the tadpoles .

17:36 the problem with Wyll is that they re-wrote the entire character after fans who played early access complained he wasn't likeable enough. He was a very flawed but multi-faceted character, but Larian re-wrote him to be a generic good guy. I love the fact they listen to fan feedback, but sometimes I feel you need to stick to your creative vision and trust people will appreciate it when they experience the finished article (I understand this is an incredibly hard tightrope to walk). Wyll may not have been likeable (to some people), but the original version of Wyll was a much more interesting, complex and charismatic character.

Based take. PLaying Act 3 once or twice is a fun time but after that? You start to figure out all the quests you can skip with zero impact on the story or progression. It's to the point I just kill Gortash with that throw glitch when you meet him in Wyrm's Crossing so I can skip straight to the "Boss Rush to Orin" pipeline.

Honestly idk what happened but the illusion of bg3 shattered on my second playthrough, and I never recovered. I understand that you love the game despite the criticism you gave, but at this point, I disagree (and it breaks my heart). On my second playthough I started making things slightly in reverse (like killing the Ch'r'ai without speaking to him, or leaving shadowheart at camp when I went to the shadowfell) and everything broke. The narrative stops making sense to the point that I wonder if it was worth it, to give this impression to "freedom of choice" when in reality the only freedom you have is to kill quest npc's only to lose out on their content and that's mostly it. The promise of this "huge reactive incredible piece of media" is just a lie, and that saddends me a lot. Gameplay is fun tho :)

My issue with act 3 was it felt like I didn’t have choice In the ending of the game and I couldn’t fix Karlach even tho It gave plenty of hints the steel watch and upper baldur gate was the key to fixing her.

Love BG3 and Act 3 my favorite part of the game. I also got lost and overwhelmed and remember just standing there and saying "Where do I start? What do I do?" I just started exploring and had so much fun. First two acts set the stage and act 3 the grand finale. I do agree there issues from a story stand point in act 3 but it never soured my enjoyment of the game. Anyways. Great video and points. Love your sense of humor and always look forward to a new video.

Yeah, I agree with so much of this. Especially how Act 3 feels somehow both over-filled with crap, but also unfinished at the same time. They cut so much, including the last third of Karlach's personal quest, and left in so much stuff that they could have cut and we wouldn't have lost anything important at all.

Being immortal with the ability to opt out of life when you choose would be perfect probably. Making that choice would probably only happen after centuries of suffering though. The biggest issue with immortality would have to be the fact that you’d just be floating through empty space millions of years from now

While it's not an excuse, by any means, I half wonder how much of the... Act 3-ness of Act 3 was a D&D-ism. By that I mean imagine doing what's possible to do in Baldur's Gate in actual tabletop; the DM will literally never be able to make every house or every quest interesting, and some of those quests will be unconnected or weird (largely because the DM had to make something up on the fly and got carried away, maybe; no I've never ever done that, nobody can prove anything). ALL THAT SAID, I don't disagree with you, and it's a video game -not- D&D so the same excuses don't hold the same weight, but ...in a strange way, as a forever DM, I kind of appreciate that? Is that weird? Maybe. Anyway, wonderful vid as ever, excellent points, keep 'em comin'!

must be one of those rare act 3 is the best and its not close people. best encounters ✅best exploration ✅ best side quests and the best gear ✅ sure at max level the game becomes bordeline childsplay and especially easy with fireworks to even oneshot the endboss on honour mode or how big and massive filled to the brim with content the act is....

I like Wyll, I really do, but I agree with you. This might be unpopular, but maybe they should have left Halsin as an ally and focus more on Wylls story. There was a promise, that he gets more content and decisionmaking in patch 7, so there is hope. And the three chosen could have been really interesting, but Orin and Gortash don't get enough time. Gortash, the mind behind the Absolute plot, even can be bypassed completely, if you attack teh steelwatch factory before going to his coronation. I'm a big BG3 fan and love a lot about this game, but I wish, some of the storylines had gotten a bit more love. Like the Hearthflame sisters in the House of Hope: we never really find out, what happened, that overprotective Korrilla turned on her sister Hope. Those two are my personal pet peeves, because I like them and had wished to learn more about them.

I'm always team yennefer but against Geralt himself, since I read the books and could not stand him getting fat and sleeping with fringillia while yen was getting mega torture. I do see the appeal of game triss but she's just not my type, she is waaay too much of a goody goody

Pretty sure Dark Urge is the main storyline of BG3, so the fact that game suggests you to play Tav first is a bit misleading, but also helps you understand the game and plot before doing Dark Urge. Also, you're not supposed to play in one playthrough for months, but do many playthroughs with different decisions. You also can play as origin chars, who have their own things not available to you if they're just companions. So, single playthrough is not the right way to explore this game. Still, I agree about everything regarding Act 3, it's the worst.

I discovered that if dragging my feet (i think it was 2 long rests) after telling Aldrin that Nightsong is a person, and not telling Nightsong about Lorokan's plan, Aldrin's party rolls into the camp at night. Andd then, at least for me, both Minsc and Karlah got stuck in the night dialogue setting, so it was impossible to talk to them properly (both just telling me that we should rest) and without option to ask them join the party. I'm mostly frustrated by Balduran thing. They fucked up Moonrise Towers timeline, on top of sheer size of middle finger to existing setting they pulled with "Balduran" (and Zenith presence in hireling section. If you *refer* to presence of someone from the first Baldur's Gate, who is, according to current DnD is still alive... but person won't appear? maybe better to NOT)

Dark urge is the real main character of the game, many quests in the main story react different with that origin, Orin and gortash has big connections with it as well. And side quests in act 3 are interesting, like in Witcher 3, we don’t do them only because of the xp but for their mini stories outside of the end of the world quest.

But, good video! I'm in act 3 for my 4th time and I gotta agree. Sometimes it feels like a slog, but I really, really, REALLY love this game... really... I have over 1000 hours in it! :) I can't wait till they fix Minthara's reactionary dialogs so I can finish my "evil" playthrough (hey Minthara, Orin kidnapped Gale, I know you don't think highly of wizards, but c'mon, you gotta have something to say about that... you have opinions on everything/everyone else). And then I can start my dark urge playthrough (probably wait till patch 7 for that). Oh, and one more "good" playthrough as maybe a group of bards or something. :)

I totally agree with you. Whenever I start a new playthrough and I get to Act 3 I always either take a break for a while or just end the playthrough right there. But, actually, I _like_ act 3. It's just too much, at that point in the game. In fact, I would advocate completely cutting act 2 and going straight from 1 to 3.

Best way of making wyll interesting... Play as Wyll !!! That way him being a blank slate just makes sense. Also romancing Karlach feels right.

I don't agree with all of your nitpicks, I can see Wyll's story being not well rounded, same for Karlach. I don't mind Gortash and Orin, or unfinished and rushed quests and storylines, I'm more sad about underwhelming final boss. Storywise my only actual gripe is an interlude between Act 2 and 3, way too heavy handed. Despite all unfinished and unpolished things in Act 3 it's still incredible, biggest problem in my opinion is power curve - 12 is too little a level cap, should've been 15, so you can barely get it before finale if you do all content. Keeps subsequent playthroughs more interesting :-) Other than that, great game, one of the best CRPGs ever and a worthy successor to it's ancestry

BG3 killed its antagonist and, with him, its plot at the end of Act 2. BG3 as a whole is visibly unfinished despite years in early access. The praise heaped on it is largely derived from the fact that it cleared a very low bar of quality in RPGs. It's a 7/10 game.

The writing in act 3 took a hell of a nosedive, the characters are inconsistent at the weirdest of times, Astarion got angry with my ranger who is a very "rules of nature" type of guy because while Astarion may be fine with killing thousands of people to ascend to power, he also thinks all refugees are welcome. Racist Will sounds interesting and based, would have loved to have seen that from him. Overall, it shows where the people who think the changes to DnD 5E had the most influence, cause I've been hit over the head with "good and bad are relative and your heroes are actually decrepit disillusioned sourpusses who are all cynical now" so many times that I had to ask for a change of pace, which never did come mind you.

Before I even watch this - yes. I've played into Chapter 3 three times. Never truly finished it. The first time I technically finished it, but it was so long that when I was climbing to the final battle and Gale said, "You don't have to do this - I still has nuke," I just said, "For the love of all, yes! End this game right now!" And then my end scene was all mucked up.
